CGRG Falls in Nail-Biter to DRDC
By: Flesner
On Saturday, July 25th, The Cape Girardeau Roller Girls took on one of our favorite opponents; Dark River Derby Coalition from Quincy, Illinois. CGRG last played DRDC in August 2014 with Dark River taking the win, 155-108. As expected, DRDC again came out strong with tough walls and quick jammers. Dark River lead during the majority of the game; but on the second to last jam, CGRG took advantage of some big blocking and jamming and came within 7 points of the tie! In the end, Dark River ended up with the lead jammer advantage on the final jam, and CGRG took the loss with a score of 109 to 136. Congratulations to MVP Jammer, Molotov, and MVP Blocker, Salty!
As a 501c4 organization, proceeds from every home game benefit a local charity. At halftime, a check for $400 in proceeds from the June 20 game was presented to KCRU Public Radio. The proceeds from the July 25th game will benefit the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri. Special thanks to them for bringing out some adoptable pups to the game!
